The coffee shop owner had been procrastinating for months. We had analyzed his merchant services statements and presented an “apples to apples” comparison showing that if he had processed the exact same transactions with PayProTec West Coast, he would have saved close to $200 per month. He knew he could use that $2,400 per year…and he said he would make the switch…but he hadn’t.
Instead, he kept putting it off and putting it off because he was convinced that it would be a nightmare to switch credit card processors. Finally, he pulled the trigger. Less than 72 hours later we had new equipment installed on site, ready for action. He didn’t even have to show up at his coffee shop for the occasion!
Even better, within the first month he started saving $400 per month—double what we had anticipated. Why? As it turns out, there were additional unnecessary fees that none of us realized the previous processor had been charging.
Total time invested out of his schedule to save $4,800 per year: 15 minutes.
What’s involved with switching credit card processors?
If you’re working with PayProTec West Coast, while the process depends on the type of equipment you are using, we always make it as easy as possible for you.
- Regular terminal – The application process takes about 10 to 15 minutes. After that, things are usually approved that day or the next. A few days later the new equipment arrives. Either we come by and set it up for you or we walk someone at your site through the process, which usually just involves plugging the terminal into the power, telephone line and ethernet. Easy! Plus, there’s no down time because we don’t have to cancel your current credit card processing service until you’re up and running with us.
- Virtual terminal – A virtual terminal set-up eliminates equipment altogether. Instead, you either log in to a website or download and use an app. If you’re using a virtual terminal, after your application is submitted you can be taking credit cards within 3 to 24 hours. Simple!
- Full Point of Sale (POS) system – The most complex option, a POS system generally takes two to three weeks to get up and running. In addition to filling out the application you’ll also need to provide your inventory information. We’ll upload this information, do all the programming and install the system for you. Then we’ll provide training for your staff at no additional cost.
What about other providers? While we’re sure that some are wonderful, many are not. We’ve seen situations where the sales rep signs the merchant up and then disappears. The equipment shows up in a box, and it’s up to the merchant to figure things out. While this is quite doable for basic terminals, it truly is a time-consuming pain when a POS terminal shows up unprogrammed, and you have to scale the learning curve to get it programmed and installed.
